People eat healthier when they cook at home, but many people have not developed the necessary skills or do not believe that healthy meals can taste good. Cooking and consumption of meals at home is no longer considered a social norm. Previous interventions have focused on education of cooking methods, but exclude behavior change theory. Diabetes self-management programs often need extended support and additional programming. This presentation will introduce theories that (1) may improve self-efficacy related to healthy cooking methods, (2) keep cultural autonomy, (3) increase confidence in swapping recipe ingredients, and (4) encourage individuals to connect through cooking to maintain their health goals. This model contains key determinants from theories such as social connections, self-efficacy, and attitudes and beliefs.
