This poster describes the implementation of a carbohydrate-based insulin dosing calculator into the electronic medical record in a large urban academic medical center. The intended use is for select hospitalized pediatric and adult diabetes patients under the care of the endocrinology services. The inpatient CDCES team was involved with the inception, implementation, and continued use of the insulin dosing calculator for the past year. The nursing interventions and outcomes to date are shared. Future considerations to improve the use of the insulin dosing calculator, nursing educational opportunities, and user satisfaction are discussed.
