Cancer and diabetes are diagnosed within the same individual more frequently than would be expected by chance, even adjusted by age. People with cancer who have pre-existing diabetes have higher mortality rates. The worse the glycemic management, the worse the outcomes. This session will cover the relationship between hyperglycemia, diabetes, and cancer, medications that increase the risk for diabetes and cancer, and how to manage blood glucose during cancer treatments with steroids, enteral and parenteral nutrition, PI3K-AKI-mTOR inhibitors, and immune checkpoint inhibitors.
