Managing diabetes is difficult at best. However, individuals living with diabetes must also manage the stigma of diet culture and fatphobia as they struggle to manage glucose levels and participate in weight management. Medical providers will often suggest restrictive weight loss measures, which can lead to various disordered eating behaviors. Furthermore, clients may feel shame, lose hope, avoid medical care, and abuse insulin and other medications. In this presentation, you will learn about eating disorder trends among people with diabetes and what can be done to reduce stigma-producing attitudes. You will learn to be part of the solution to end diet culture and fatphobia in caring for people with diabetes.
