People with diabetes are likely to experience anxiety and depression as well physical and emotional stress as part of life with diabetes. Mindfulness practice and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) have been shown to lessen the effects of these stressors and can greatly help those living with diabetes with improved diabetes management. These practices are free, accessible, simple to learn and may have a profound effect on those who incorporate them on a consistent basis. This presentation will highlight the science and real-life understanding behind these practices, discuss practical ways for the DCES to incorporate these teachings, and provide resources to assist individuals in developing a mindfulness/meditation practice. An interactive meditation practice will be offered as part of this session.
