Under-resourced youth with T1D experience significant disparities in health and life outcomes, and such avoidable problems impact a not-insignificant portion of youth living with T1D. Novel Interventions in Children's Health Care (NICH) Program is an intensive systems-based behavioral health intervention, that represents an alternative care approach for youth experiencing difficulty accessing or responding to typical medical and behavioral health care. As such, NICH is an innovative approach to addressing the social determinants of health in youth living with T1D who also experience significant social challenges that impact their health. Previous evaluations of NICH demonstrate improved A1C values, reduced acute healthcare utilization, lower medical costs, and improved access to technology in high-risk, high-needs youth with T1D.
