T2D is increasing in children and adolescents. Prevention and treatment must consider life-stage nutritional needs and age-appropriate weight management. This session covers the prevalence of T2D in children/adolescents, risk factors for diabetes and complications associated with diabetes in children and adolescents. Additionally, the session will focus on medical nutrition therapy guidelines and age-appropriate weight management recommendations as supported by evidence and professional practice recommendations, as well as educational strategies for working with children, adolescents and their families.
