The U.S. is becoming an increasingly diverse country. Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) typically suffer from worse diabetes care outcomes. Providing culturally tailored and inclusive care for BIPOC is essential for alleviating this care gap. This presentation will discuss the different aspects of “culture” and nutrition and diabetes concerns of historically marginalized groups. This session will discuss inclusive counseling techniques and language when providing culturally-sensitive care to diverse communities. Self-reflection, counseling techniques and steps towards more accessible, inclusive and equitable care will be discussed. Presenters will share with attendees ways to Implement meaningful diversity and inclusion opportunities for promoting cultural sensitivity in their community and practice.
