Diabetes is associated with musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) that can result in decreased range of motion, decreased strength, increased risk of fracture, pain, and decreased function. Frozen shoulder, Charcot foot, Dupuytren's contracture, trigger finger, sarcopenia, osteoporosis and increased risk of fracture are all associated with diabetes. These MSDs can impact an individual’s movement and function. Working within the care team, DCESs can initiate collaborative care for an individual with diabetes and MSDs to reduce the risk for further complications and comorbidities. This presentation will include an overview of MSDs that are associated with diabetes; describe identification, interventions, and precautions; and propose opportunities for referral to address these disorders.
