It is clear, the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) lifestyle change program can cut participants’ risk of developing T2D by more than half. With these kinds of outcomes, why would participants ever leave the program? The American Diabetes Association conducted the National DPP Dropout Study that examined the characteristics, experiences and recommendations of participants who did not complete the program. This presentation provides an overview of the study including characteristics of non-completers, barriers facing participants along with the implications of these barriers, and recommendations for lifestyle change programs to improve retention and reduce barriers facing participants in underserved communities.
